About the Farm

About the Farm

At Henthorn Farm Flowers we grow seasonal cut blooms for weddings, events, workshops and farm gate sales. We use organic growing methods, make our own compost teas and recycle the waste from our large pond to use as a fertiliser.

We believe in putting goodness back into the soil and supporting the micro-organisms and fungi within it. To do that, we avoid digging or using chemicals and enrich the soil with organic matter. All our plant waste is composted and we also have a wormery which provides plant food.  We are bee and wildlife friendly and produce an array of flowers from your much loved cottage garden favourites, to unusual cultivars, quirky seed pods, interesting textures and beautiful grasses.

Our flowers have a low environmental impact, are cut at their peak for freshness,  conditioned here on the farm and have virtually no carbon footprint - most commercial flowers have travelled 3,000 miles to get to you. Our style is natural and wild, letting the beauty of nature take the lead.

love flowers; I love growing flowers; I love designing with flowers; I love making people happy with flowers.

About Me

Pic of Kirsten.jpg

Hi I'm Kirsten, I'm the grower and floral designer at Henthorn Farm Flowers, which I do with the help of my hugely supportive partner Mick.

I have spent most of my working life as a nurse and l also trained as an Interior Designer. However, I've always wanted to run my own business, but I couldn't find what it was I was meant to do. That was until one day my youngest daughter Georgie said "I know mum, why don't you grow flowers  and do weddings?". I looked at her  and thought, "you know what, that's a really good idea"  and so the seed was sown and here we are. I finally feel like I've found my passion and purpose.

I'm also a member of Flowers from the Farm, a co-operative of British flower growers.  This organisation allows me to bulk buy special and unusual flowers that I couldn't do on my own and to have the friendship and support of a network of other growers and florists.  I'm proud to be the co-cordinator for the North West region.

I've come a long way since that first idea was born and I have to thank my friends and family for their support in making it happen.

My bespoke wedding services range from simple bouquet and button hole packages with a minimum spend of £400, through to individual ceremony and reception pieces. I prefer to use my own flowers or those from other local growers, but I can also supplement with bought in flowers when needed.

My style is loose and natural, reminiscent of an English country garden. I try to use seasonal flowers when they are at their best and I like to incorporate unusual garden foliage and interesting textures.

My natural style does not lend itself to embellishments with diamonds and sparkly bits, so if your preference is for a bit of bling, then I'm probably not the florist for you. Please fill out the enquiry form below if you'd like to arrange a one to one consultation.

I am trying to move away from using floral foam which has been the traditional tool of many tribute pieces. The foam does not biodegrade and is toxic to the environment, so not suitable for natural burials. My natural, organic style suits less structured arrangements and I like to create thoughtful, original pieces with care and attention to detail.

 Creative Workshops

At Henthorn Farm Flowers we hold a number of different workshops throughout the year.  We kick off the year with a hand-tied bouquet for Mothers Day and ending with Christmas Wreaths in December.  Each workshop lasts between 2 and 3 hours depending on content and starts with a demonstration by myself, Kirsten.  I can answer any questions as we work through the workshop and am on hand for guidance and advice.  Workshops include everything that is needed to create your masterpiece which you then take home to enjoy at the end of the day.

We limit each workshop to 7 places so that you get a truly personalised experience on the day.

All skill levels are catered for so don't worry if you are a novice or have attended one of the workshops before - we just want you to enjoy it and take home a new skill.

Each workshop includes refreshments - these differ depending on the time of day and year so check each workshop for details - there's usually cake and hot drinks as a minimum though!

If you would like to give a workshop as a gift, we can organise gift vouchers which are valid for 12 months.

When booking, please inform me of any allergies or sensitivities to plant material.  Unfortunately, the workshops are not suitable for children.
